One of the most valuable commodities we have is our time. So much value we place on our time, but rarely do we ever dedicate enough of it to checking our processes. (Usually checking the clock!)

Fail to prepare is to prepare to fail. I can’t remember where I first heard that. But it fits. I have to say, the easiest way to succeed is with an action plan. Once you have one it must be followed. Smart goals. (That’s specific, measurable, achievable, relative to the objective & time-bound.) Have to be set. It’s not as easy as you think either. We tend to be far too unrealistic with our capabilities often. “Bite size pieces,” remember! (Sorry about the schoolteacher overtones, but you must get this bit here)

• Effort without results = EXPERIENCE, not a waste of time! Be cognitive. (Use what you’ve learnt from your failures) Remember is it’s a growth learning patterns. So many of us really DO expect a ‘hole in one!’

• Some are pragmatic & just have to jump in head first, and others are more theorist and need to fully understand before implementation. Neither is better than the other, all that matters is that you are consistent and tenacious, and that you keep at it. Do not be amazed when your first few attempts fail you….

• The give yourself a fighting chance… Just because you know where the Gas pedal is, doesn’t mean you know how to drive… When you have had little to no training, and have your end goal in mind there is often an unrealistic time frame to succeed. Your competency will develop over time.

• I say reassure yourself with a weekly de-brief. Set it in your WA tasks or on a to-do calendar if you wish. Then LIST and then LOOK at what you have learnt in week. If ONLY 0.01%, it’s still an improvement and that’s all you need to look for. Know that you have achieved. And start ‘eating the elephant’…Get out the kitchen cutlery, its bite size pieces remember… how long till you complete your goals and eat that elephant feast?
